Anonymous collective has breached the database of FSB officers

The Anonymous collective has breached the database of FSB officers. However, upon checking, The Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense (GUR MOU), Ukraine’s spy organization, produced a list with the names of 622 people. Individuals on the list, according to the agency, are FSB officers who engage in ‘criminal actions’ in nations across Europe.

Individuals named in the breach, according to GUR MOU, are registered at the FSB’s Moscow headquarters. Names, present and past addresses, phone numbers, car registration plates, and, in some cases, debt levels are included on the list.

Who is FSB ?

FSB is Russian intelligence. The Russian Federation’s Federal Security Service is the country’s premier security agency and the main successor to the Soviet Union’s KGB. Its direct predecessor was the Federal Counterintelligence Service, which was restructured as the FSB in 1995.

The FSB is widely regarded as the major successor to the KGB, the notorious Soviet spy agency. In Moscow’s Lubyanka Square, both organizations have the same headquarters. Vladimir Putin appoints the FSB’s head personally.

Sergey Beseda and Anatoly Bolukh, two high-ranking FSB officials, were placed under house arrest earlier this month, allegedly for mishandling Russia’s conflict in Ukraine.

The leaked data concerns FSB personnel operating in Moscow and include names, dates of birth, registration addresses, passport numbers, debts, air tickets, SIM cards, and even more.

FSB is an influential governmental organization in Russia with a broad range of activities related to state security, which also extends to a range of active measures and operations in foreign states. This organization also actively participates in the ongoing invasion against Ukraine.

Influential in past, this organization has replaced former KGB and FSK. Lately, however, FSB demonstrates poor preparation for modern cyber-warfare. Last month the Ukrainian intelligence reported leaked phone calls between FSB and their superiors in Moscow. The current leak is actually also the second one: the first ‘batch’ of personal data of 620 FSB officers was leaked also in late March.

Previously anonymous also have taken down numerous websites associated with Russian government, hacked the central bank of Russia, and leaked documents from different organizations including Roscosmos.
