Introduction

In this blog review, I will argue that The Flash is one of the best DC movies in 2023, because it balances humor, action and emotion, while also introducing the concept of the multiverse to the DC Extended Universe.

The Flash is set to hit theaters on June 16, 2023, in the United States. It is the 12th installment of the DC Extended Universe, a series of interconnected films featuring DC Comics characters. This Sci-Fi & Fantasy is directed by Andy Muschietti, who previously helmed the horror hits It and It Chapter Two. The movie has been in the works for almost a decade and has overcome many challenges and changes in its creative team.

A brief summary of the plot

The Flash follows the journey of Barry Allen, a young forensic scientist who has the power to move at superhuman speeds. Barry is haunted by the death of his mother, who was killed when he was a child and the imprisonment of his father who was falsely accused of the crime.

Barry decides to use his speed to travel back in time and save his mother, but he accidentally creates a ripple effect that alters the course of history. In this new reality, he finds himself in a world without superheroes, where General Zod, a Kryptonian warlord, has conquered Earth and enslaved humanity.

And he meets an older version of Bruce Wayne, who is still fighting crime as Batman and a young Kryptonian girl named Kara who is locked up by Zod. Together, they must find a way to restore the timeline and stop Zod from destroying everything.

Along the way, Barry learns more about himself and his connection to the Speed Force, a mysterious energy source that gives him his powers. And then he discovers that there are multiple universes, each with its own version of reality. This is a movie that takes the audience on a wild ride across time and space, while also delivering a heartfelt and humorous story about finding your place in the world.

Analysis

Acting

One of the aspects that makes The Flash a great movie is the acting. The cast delivers excellent performances that bring their characters to life. Ezra Miller is charming and charismatic as Barry Allen, the titular hero. He portrays Barry as a smart, funny and optimistic person who also struggles with guilt, insecurity and loneliness.

He makes the audience care about his journey and root for his success. Michael Keaton is brilliant as Bruce Wayne, the older Batman. He plays Bruce as a grizzled, cynical and weary veteran who still has a sense of humor and compassion. And has great chemistry with Miller and their scenes together are some of the highlights of the movie.

The Supergirl Sasha Calle is impressive as Kara Zor-El. She plays Kara as a strong, brave and kind-hearted girl. And she adds a lot of emotion and excitement to the movie, especially when she unleashes her powers.

The main villain, Michael Shannon is terrifying as General Zod. He plays Zod as a ruthless, arrogant and fanatical leader who will stop at nothing to achieve his goals. He makes the audience fear for the fate of the world and the heroes.

Some of the notable cast members of The Flash are:

  • Ezra Miller as Barry Allen / The Flash: A forensic scientist who can move at superhuman speeds due to his connection to the Speed Force.
  • Michael Keaton as Bruce Wayne / Batman: An older version of the vigilante from another universe, who mentors Barry and helps him navigate the multiverse.
  • Sasha Calle as Kara Zor-El / Supergirl: A Kryptonian cousin of Superman from another universe, who is imprisoned by General Zod.
  • Michael Shannon as General Zod: A ruthless Kryptonian warlord who has conquered Earth in an alternate timeline.
  • Ron Livingston as Henry Allen: Barry’s father, who was wrongfully convicted of murdering his wife.
  • Maribel Verdú as Nora Allen: Barry’s mother, whose death motivates him to change the past.

Direction

Andy Muschietti does a fantastic job of directing the movie, creating a fast-paced, action-packed and visually stunning spectacle. He uses his skills as a horror director to create some tense and scary moments such as:

When Barry encounters Zod's army of Kryptonians or when he faces his own dark side. He also uses his skills as a fantasy director to create some magical and whimsical moments such as when Barry travels through the multiverse or when he meets different versions of himself and other heroes.

He balances the tone of the movie well, mixing drama, comedy and adventure in a satisfying way. And also handles the complex plot and the multiple characters well by giving each one enough screen time and development.

Editing

The editing of this Sci-Fi & War movie is smooth and coherent, creating a clear and engaging narrative. And also enhances the mood and atmosphere of the movie using different techniques such as slow motion, fast cuts, transitions and flashbacks.

For example, using slow motion to emphasize Barry's speed and power, when Barr runs across water or dodges bullets, fights Zod's soldiers or when he tries to fix the timeline. The editing also uses transitions to show Barry's movement through time and space, when he breaks through a wall or when he enters a portal and uses flashbacks to show Barry's memories and motivations when he remembers his mother or when he sees his father in prison.

This action film is not only a fun and exciting superhero movie, but also a touching and inspiring story about family, friendship and identity. The Flash is one of the best DC movies in 2023 and I highly recommend it to anyone who loves comic books or movies in general.

Conclusion

This United States of America movie is introducing the concept of the multiverse to the DC Extended Universe. And has excellent acting, direction and editing that bring the characters and the story to life.

It is not only a great superhero movie, but also a compelling story about family, friendship and identity. And will make you laugh, cry and cheer. It will also make you think about the choices you make and the consequences they have. This Entertainment movie will make you feel alive.

So don't miss it, because it's a flash of brilliance.
